Petroglyphs of the Cosos
Take a walk in secluded Little Petroglyph Canyon, also known as Renegade Canyon, and discover thousands of petroglyphs, or ancient rock art carvings, left by hunter-gather peoples between 2-10,000 years ago. These cultural treasures are thankfully protected as their canyons are located on Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake near Ridgecrest, California, USA. These distinctive stone etchings are unique to the Coso Range, with Bighorn sheep being the most common. This immense and wondrous cache of ancient rock art is culturally important for the world. Their story offers a look into the ancient past of human heritage. XMI is thankful to receive the opportunity to photograph them for preservation.
