Khmer Culture
Siem Reap is known as a gateway to the ancient world of Angkor, now housed within Angkor Archeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Cambodia. Most visitors to Siem Reap are focused on touring these famous ruins; however, the city itself offers a unique look into Khmer culture and traditions of its food. The architecture has evolved through the influence of western explorers and the outside world, yet its cuisine continues to use Khmer ingredients and be inspired by traditional cooking techniques. There’s an incredible range of flavors, and settings in which to enjoy them. There are labyrinthine markets, roadside stalls, mobile vendors and fine dining to please foodies and cultural adventurers alike. Exploring Cambodian food offers an added, deeper dimension to the experience of walking Angkor’s ruins.
