WHV Angkor - Water Management
WHV-Angkor focuses on various efforts aimed to conserve, protect and promote Angkor Archaeological Park, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site in Cambodia. The ancient hydraulic system, built during the Khmer Empire, plays a critical role in stabilizing the ancient buildings of the site. The structures of Angkor stand on a layer of sand, and sand depends upon its degree of water saturation for strength and firmness. Research is being done to understand this vital water system in order to properly operate and care for its infrastructure. APSARA National Authority was established to oversee the Angkor complex and to ensure these conservation efforts. XMI was on site to document this important work and the hands-on opportunity offered to the UNESCO World Heritage youth volunteers program.
