Cuba Entomology Field Research: Guanahacabibes
Guanahacabibes National Park and Biosphere Reserve is located on the Guanahacabibes Peninsula in Pinar del Rio, the western most province of Cuba’s main island. The region is designated as a UNESCO Biosphere, and is on the Tentative List as part of UNESCO World Heritage Site No. 1802, titled Reef System in the Cuban Caribbean. Our fieldwork focused on both day and night observations to assess its diverse insect population. The team hiked across the peninsula during the day scouting for specimens; and at night, established a location for a night collecting sheet and mercury vapor light to study nocturnal insects.
