Myanmar (formerly Burma): Wooden Monasteries of Konbaung Period in Sala
Sala Wooden Monastery is located in the Ayeyarwady River basin of Myanmar (formerly Burma). The site is on the tentative list for World Heritage status. It consists of four main timber structures aligned on a large wooden platform lifted above the ground by posts. Carved stone staircases allow access. The entire monastery is decorated by extensive beautifully detailed woodcarving which depicts aspects of daily life in Myanmar.
