Ta Prohm Temple
Ta Prohm Temple is one of the most visited sites in Cambodia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site: Angkor Archaeological Park. Ta Prohm was consecrated in 1186 and built under the reign of King Jayavarman VII. Its original name was Rajavihar, meaning royal monastery. The temple compound has been mostly left as found with enormous tree roots covering its buildings. These roots offer a beauty and alluring mystery despite causing much of the temple’s destruction. Conservation efforts have been made to stabilize the buildings from further decay. The visitor popularity of this site provides an excellent look at sustainable tourism management and the Code of Conduct implemented by the APSARA National Authority.
