Neak Poan and Baray of Preah Khan
Neak Poan was built for medical purposes during the reign of Khmer King Jayarvarman VII. It lies within the Baray of Preah Khan; also known as Jayatatak; and was part of the ancient hydraulic system for the Khmer civilization. Today scientists realize the importance of Angkors water system not only in bringing water to the inhabitants but in stabilizing the sandy ground on which Angkor was built. Conservation efforts are ongoing to restore the integrity and maintain the function of this vital water system.
