Banteay Samre Temple
Banteay Samre Temple, or The Citadel of the Samre (an ancient people), lies in the remote western region of Angkor Archaeological Park, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site in Cambodia. It was built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the first half of the 12th century. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Many of its fabulous carvings are being restored by the Stone Conservation Unit of APSARA National Authority with the help of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Hopefully with these dedicated efforts, the temple's beauty and character will be preserved for future generations.
