Myanmar (formerly Burma): Inle Lake
Inle Lake lies in the heart of the Shan State in Myanmar. The lake is famous for its stilted villages, hydroponic cultivation of floating gardens, leg-rowing fishermen and the unique way of life for its communities based entirely on the water. The area is a designated Ramsar Site and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. These programs foster harmonious integration of people and nature for sustainable development through participatory dialogue, knowledge sharing, poverty reduction, human well-being improvements, and respect for cultural values and by improving society’s ability to cope with climate change. (UNESCO) XMI Team was thrilled to have the opportunity to document this important site.
