Cuba: El Parque Nacional de Viñales, Vinales National Park
El Parque Nacional de Viñales, or Vinales National Park, is a “living landscape” with striking features from amazing endemic species to lush, densely forested mountains to dramatic jagged green rock formations known as mogotes to rich rusty red soil to deep caves with rivers navigated by boat. It’s no wonder the area was protected as a national park, and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We were able to explore and document Viñales as part of the Cuba Entomology Research Expedition. Our focus was working with entomologists from the University of Georgia to investigate insects; however, we also photographed all aspects of the Viñales natural landscape.
