Carrizo Plain National Monument
Carrizo Plain National Monument offers a preserved natural habitat, stretching about 38 miles long by 17 miles wide, or about 250,000 acres, in central California, USA. This protected area is the largest single native grassland remaining in the state, and is home to threatened and endangered species. It also holds significant cultural and historical resources. Carrizo Plain also offers viewing of the San Andreas Fault, spectacular spring wildflower displays, prehistoric Native American pictographs and campsites, and remains of 19th century homesteads. Carrizo Plain is part of the National Landscape Conservation System managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This system was established "to conserve, protect and restore significant landscapes of exceptional cultural, ecological and scientific values for the benefit of current and future generations."
